The Turtini Cocktail

Give the "Turtini" a try the next time you're in a celebratory mode! The Turtini is a martini that evokes the serene and slightly salty essence of the ocean!

The "Turtini"

Inspiration: The gentle crawl of a sea turtle, the cool, briny air, and the vibrant colors of coral reefs.

Flavor Profile: Crisp, slightly salty, with a hint of citrus and a touch of herbal freshness.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Gin (A London Dry or a slightly citrus-forward gin works well)
  • 0.75 oz Dry Vermouth
  • 0.25 oz Blue Curaçao (for a subtle oceanic hue and a touch of citrus)
  • 2 Dashes Sea Salt Solution (1 part fine sea salt dissolved in 4 parts hot water, cooled)
  • 1 Dash Orange Bitters
  • Garnish: A small piece of edible seaweed (nori) wrapped around a cocktail onion, or a thin slice of cucumber.

Instructions:

  1. Chill your glass: Place a martini glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a mixing glass filled with ice, add the gin, dry vermouth, Blue Curaçao, sea salt solution, and orange bitters.
  3. Stir: Stir gently for 20-30 seconds until well chilled.
  4. Strain: Empty the chilled glass and strain the cocktail into it.
  5. Garnish: Carefully place the seaweed-wrapped cocktail onion or the cucumber slice on the rim or in the drink.

Notes:

  • Sea Salt Solution: The sea salt solution adds a subtle briny note that mimics the ocean air. Be careful not to add too much, as it can quickly overpower the other flavors.
  • Blue Curaçao: The Blue Curaçao gives the cocktail its distinctive oceanic color. Use a small amount to avoid making the drink too sweet.
  • Garnish: The garnish is meant to be a nod to the ocean's flora. Edible seaweed and cucumber both add a fresh, sea-inspired element.
  • Gin Selection: A gin with botanical notes that complement citrus and salt will work best.
  • Vermouth: a dry vermouth is key to a classic martini feel.
  • Optional: A very small amount of coconut rum can add an additional layer of ocean flavor, but use it very sparingly.

Enjoy your "Turtini" and let the flavors transport you to the tranquil depths of the sea!
