Smart Goals — set, track, and collaborate
Smart Goals let employees and managers set clear, time-bound objectives and collaborate on progress. SMART = Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound. A goal is owned jointly — both the worker and their manager can edit it.
Enabling the Goals tab:
1. Workforce → Settings → Performance → toggle on
2. The Goals and Reviews tabs appear in Workforce
Creating a goal:
1. Workforce → Goals → + New Goal
2. Pick the worker (employees can create their own; managers can create for anyone on the team)
3. Enter a clear title — the headline outcome
4. Fill in the four SMART criteria — Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant — plus a due date for the Time-bound piece (each field is optional but recommended)
5. Save — the goal goes Active immediately
The Goals tab has three pills: My Goals, Team (the default for managers), and All.
Tracking progress:
• Adjust the progress slider (0–100%) at any time — both employee and manager can edit
• Add Key Results as concrete checkpoints; tick them as they're completed
• Status auto-flips to At Risk when the due date is past and progress < 100%
• Mark Met or Missed at the end of the period; a goal can also be left as a Draft or Cancelled by mutual agreement
Collaboration:
• The comments thread is a shared discussion between employee and manager — flag blockers, share progress notes, check in (each comment stamps its author and time)
• The last editor is recorded on every save, so you can see who moved the goal
• Either party can change the status
Linking to work and reviews:
• Optionally link a goal to a Planning project or task it advances
• At review time, every linked goal appears in the review document automatically — no re-entering goals to reference them
Tip: Wally can suggest SMART goal candidates for any worker based on their role and recent assignments — ask "give me goal ideas for [name]" in the chat.
