Searching and booking hotels (via Duffel)

Hotel search inside Trips uses the Duffel Stays API to surface real-time availability and rates from hundreds of suppliers. Search a city or specific property, see live prices, and quote a rate before booking.

To search:
1. Trips → open or create a trip
2. Lodging tab → "+ Add hotel"
3. Search by:
• City (e.g. "Tucson, AZ") — returns 50 properties sorted by guest rating
• Specific hotel name (e.g. "Westin La Paloma")
• Map area — drag a bounding box on the map
4. Set check-in / check-out dates and number of guests
5. Live results show: name, photo, rating, lowest rate, free cancellation flag

Quoting a rate:
• Click any property → see room types, rates, refundability, breakfast included, etc.
• Pick a rate → "Quote" — locks the price for 30 minutes
• Quote shows total + per-night breakdown + taxes + the resort fees that show up at check-in (transparency Duffel exposes)

Booking:
• Click "Book this rate" while quote is valid
• Pre-fills your Travel Profile (name, frequent-flyer/loyalty numbers)
• Payment via card on file or new card
• Confirmation email goes out + the trip is updated with booked status

Trip integration:
• Hotels are visible on the trip itinerary alongside flights and POIs
• Calendar export includes hotel check-in/check-out
• Receipts auto-imported into Expense Reports if the trip is a Work Trip
• Booking confirmation numbers are stored — easy access if you need to call the property

Cancellations:
• Cancel from the trip's Lodging tab → "Cancel reservation"
• Refund timing depends on the rate (free cancel = immediate, non-refundable = no refund, partial = per terms)
• Cancellation status shown in real time

Limits:
• Duffel doesn't cover 100% of properties — boutique/independent hotels may not appear; you can manually log them with "Add manual lodging"
• Vacation rentals (Airbnb, VRBO) aren't in the Duffel feed — manual entry only
• Loyalty redemptions (free nights with Marriott Bonvoy etc.) aren't supported — book direct with the chain and add manual entry
