Giving subscribers an automatic discount on every purchase

Any plan can include a percentage discount that automatically comes off the subscriber's total when they buy from you in Retail, Restaurant, or Lodging — no codes to remember, no manual override at the register.

Step-by-step:
1. Subscriptions → Plans → "+ New plan" (or "Edit" on an existing plan).
2. Fill in the usual plan fields (name, type, amount, interval).
3. In the "Subscriber Discount (%)" field, enter the percentage you want auto-applied to in-org purchases. 10% is a common membership perk; 20%+ is a strong loyalty incentive.
4. Save.

That's it. From the next purchase forward, any subscriber on this plan with status "active" or "trialing" gets the discount automatically when the cashier / server / front desk identifies them by the email on file.

How matching works:
The platform matches a checkout to a subscription by email (the cashier types the customer's email into the receipt field, or the table reservation has the guest's email on it, or the lodging reservation has guest email). If the email is on an active subscriber record for any plan with a discount greater than zero, the highest-percentage match wins.

What it looks like at each touchpoint:
• Retail register — once the cashier types the customer's email, a green "[Plan Name] subscriber (X%)" line appears in the totals panel and reduces the total. The receipt records "Subscription: X% (Plan Name)" in the discount reason.
• Restaurant — when a server opens a tab for a seated reservation, the order's subtotal is reduced automatically (the kitchen ticket prints the right total too). The discount is stamped on the order with the plan name.
• Lodging — when the front desk posts a manual room charge (minibar, spa, parking), the total is discounted automatically and the description gets an inline "— Plan Name subscriber (X% off)" note.

How it combines with other discounts:
• Manual cashier discounts (a manager comp, a "10% off coupon" entered at checkout) and the subscriber discount stack — both reduce the subtotal.
• Loyalty point-tier discounts in Restaurant and Turtini Points redemption are applied separately and also stack.
• Multiple active subscriptions on different plans → highest discount percent wins (they don't stack with each other).

What "active" means:
The discount applies for status = "active" or "trialing". Once a subscriber pauses, cancels, or hits "past_due", their discount stops at the next purchase automatically — no admin action required.

When NOT to use this:
• If you want a one-time discount code (a launch coupon, a specific promo), use Discount Codes instead — they redeem at checkout and don't depend on recurring subscription status.
• If you want a points-based reward where guests "save up" toward a free meal, use Loyalty (Restaurant Settings → Loyalty Program) — that's a different mechanic from a flat % off every purchase.

Updating the percentage:
Change the plan's "Subscriber Discount (%)" value at any time. The new percent takes effect on the next purchase — no need to notify subscribers, no rebill required.
