What your estate will cost to license, and why it is more than your core count

VMware subscriptions are priced per physical core, with a minimum number of cores charged per CPU. That minimum is why an estate is almost never billed for exactly the cores it has.

**How the number is built**

For each host, the analysis reads the socket count and the cores per socket, then bills each socket at whichever is larger: its actual cores, or the per-CPU minimum. A two-socket host with 8-core CPUs has 16 physical cores and is billed for 32 when the minimum is 16 per CPU. The floor applies **per socket**, not once per host -- a four-socket box pays four times the padding, not once.

The estate total is the sum across every host, raised to the minimum order quantity if it falls below it.

**What the tiles mean**

- **Physical cores** -- cores that exist, across the hosts the import could read.
- **Billable cores** -- what the licence is billed on, after both floors.
- **Cores paid for, not present** -- the difference. This is your exposure, and it is the number that consolidating onto denser CPUs removes.
- **Estimated annual cost** -- blank until you enter a price per core per year.

**Why no cost appears by default**

Turtini does not ship a VMware list price. Your rate comes from your contract or your reseller, and a made-up number would render exactly like a real quote. Enter your price per core per year and click **Re-price estate**; the figure recalculates from the stored host topology without you re-uploading anything.

**Changing the minimums**

Both floors are inputs. If your agreement uses a different per-CPU minimum or a different minimum order quantity, enter it and re-price. The per-host table shows which hosts sit under the minimum, so you can see exactly where the padding comes from.

**Hosts that could not be read**

If any host had no readable socket or core count, a notice names them and they are excluded from every figure on the tab. Re-export with the vHost tab included rather than accepting a total that is quietly missing hardware.
