Turtini

Sandwich builders and item choices

A menu item can offer CHOICES — bread, cheese, toppings, dressing, hold the onions. Turtini calls a set of related choices an option group. You build them on the item itself, in Menu -> edit an item -> "Choices for this item".

Each group has:
• A name — this is what the guest and the kitchen both see ("Bread", "Toppings", "Hold")
• Required or optional — a required group must be answered before the item can be ordered
• Pick one or Pick many — "Pick one" is a radio (exactly one bread); "Pick many" lets the guest choose several
• Min and max (Pick many only) — how few and how many they may choose
• Choices, each with an optional extra charge in dollars. Leave the charge blank when the choice is free.

Three shapes cover almost every deli and sandwich shop, and there is a one-tap starter for each:
• Pick one (required) — "Bread": rye, sourdough, croissant. Exactly one, and the item cannot be rung without it. Give croissant an extra charge if it costs more.
• Up to 3, free — "Toppings": lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, max 3, all free.
• Paid extras — "Extras": bacon 0.75, avocado 0.75, extra meat 2.50. Each pick adds its own charge.

"No onions" is just a free choice in a group called Hold. It costs nothing and it prints on the kitchen ticket, which is the whole point of it.

Names are the key. Renaming a group or a choice does not rename it on orders that are already open, and two groups on the same item cannot share a name — Turtini refuses to save either one.

Where choices show up:
• The guest's phone (your digital menu QR) — tapping + opens the builder
• The floor plan POS and the counter ringup — the same builder, so a server rings what the guest would have picked
• The kitchen display, the Orders tab, the check, the printed bill and the receipt

Two of the same item with different choices stay two lines on the ticket. A turkey with no onions and a turkey with extra onions never collapse into "2x Turkey".

What things cost is decided by Turtini's servers from the item you saved, not by the guest's phone. Changing a price or an extra charge here changes what is charged on the next order placed; orders already open keep the price they were rung at.
