Setting up delivery areas, fees and order minimums

You decide where you deliver, what the trip costs the customer, and the smallest order you will carry there. An address that falls outside every area you set up is turned down at checkout, with pickup offered instead.

Turning it on:
Restaurant -> Settings -> Delivery and curbside -> "Offer delivery". Online ordering has to be set to Counter Pickup first; delivery is a counter arrangement, not a dine-in one.

Three ways to describe an area, and you can mix them:
• Distance ring — everywhere within so many miles or kilometers of your address. Measured straight-line, which is always shorter than the drive, so a 3-mile ring never reaches further than you agreed to.
• Postal codes — the exact codes you type. A ZIP+4 address matches the five digits you typed.
• Drawn area — a boundary you describe as a list of points, for the times a ring includes somewhere you will not go.

Each area has its own fee and its own minimum. That is the whole point: "three miles for two dollars, six miles for five, twenty-five dollar minimum past the river" is one table, not three settings.

Areas are allowed to overlap, and the order you list them in never decides the price. A postal code you named beats a drawn area, a drawn area beats a ring, and among rings the smallest one containing the address wins. So dragging a row around cannot quietly re-price a neighborhood.

The minimum is on the food only:
Before the delivery fee and before tax. A twenty-five dollar minimum means twenty-five dollars of food. If the fee counted toward it, a five dollar fee would turn your twenty-five into twenty.

Is your delivery fee taxed?
You have to answer this, and there is no default. A delivery fee is taxable in some places, exempt in others, and taxed at a different rate from prepared food in more than one — we do not hold a rate table and we will not guess on your behalf. Pick one of three: not taxed, taxed at this restaurant's own rate, or taxed under one of your own tax categories. Until you pick, delivery orders are refused and the reason says so.

Distance rings need your own address on the map:
We look your address up once and keep the result. If it cannot be found, press "Check these areas" and you will be told — a distance ring with no starting point would refuse every order.

What a guest sees:
They choose Delivery in the cart, type their address, and press Check. We look the address up on our side, work out which of your areas it is in, and show the fee and the minimum. If it is outside everything, they are told so and offered pickup. The fee is worked out again, independently, when the order is actually placed — a guest cannot type their way into a cheaper area.

Items sold by weight cannot be delivered. Nobody knows what a half pound of sliced turkey costs until somebody cuts it, and charging an estimate then charging the difference to a card that is not present is not something we will do. Those items are counter-only.

A delivery order can also be scheduled, if you have ordering ahead switched on. The time means when the food is ready, which is the part you control.
