Printing order tickets on a receipt printer

Printing a paper ticket is optional. Orders always appear on the Kitchen display, and a printer that is offline, out of paper, or not set up never stops an order or fails a payment. The paper is a backstop for the moments nobody is watching the screen.

What to buy:
A cloud receipt printer that supports Star CloudPRNT — for example a Star TSP100IV or mC-Print3 on your network. The printer checks in with Turtini on its own timer and pulls new tickets, which is why it works from inside your network with nothing installed on your tablet and no pairing.

Setting one up:
1. Plug the printer into your network and note the address its own setup page is on.
2. In Turtini: Restaurant → Settings → Printers → Add Printer. Give it a name, choose "Cloud printer", and pick your paper width.
3. Press "Get printer URL" on the new row and copy the URL. It is shown once.
4. Open the printer's own settings page, find the CloudPRNT section, paste the URL in as the server URL, set the polling interval to about 5 seconds, and save.

Within a few seconds the printer row in Turtini shows a "last seen" time. From then on every online order prints automatically.

If it stops printing:
The printer row shows what the printer last reported — "503 Paper Empty" and the like. Load paper or clear the cover and it picks up on its own. Tickets older than 30 minutes are dropped rather than printed, so a printer coming back from an hour offline will not spit out an hour of stale orders.

Replacing or removing a printer:
"Replace printer URL" issues a new URL and immediately stops the old one working — use it if the URL has been shared around. Removing the printer row also switches it off.

A note on IP addresses:
An older version of this screen asked for the printer's IP address. That never worked and cannot: a web browser cannot open a direct connection to a printer, and Turtini cannot reach a device inside your network from outside it. If you have a printer saved as "Network", replace it with a cloud printer.

Square Terminal:
A Square Terminal cannot drive a separate receipt printer while it is paired for payments — that is a limit of the Terminal itself. Your receipt printer is its own device on the network.
