Selling something by weight at the counter
A deli slices to order: "turkey, a pound and a half." Set the item up once and your staff enter the weight when they ring it.
Setting the item up (Menu tab → the item's form):
1. Under "How this item is priced", choose By weight.
2. Choose the unit you price by — lb, oz, kg, or 100 g. This is your choice, not ours: a US deli prices per pound, a cheese counter per 100 g, a fish market per kilo. Nothing is set to pounds for you.
3. The Price box now means price PER that unit, and its label says so.
4. Optionally set "Most on one line" as a typo guard for this item.
The form shows you the line the way the counter will read it — "1.52 lb at $12.99/lb = $19.74" — so you can tell at a glance whether you have priced a pound or a sandwich.
There is no scale connection, and this is not one:
A person reads the scale display and types the number. Turtini does not talk to scale hardware. What we do guarantee is that the line reads correctly and that the money is right.
Ringing one up:
On the counter ringup, tap the item and a weight box opens with the unit beside it. The line total updates as you type, in large figures, next to the weight and the per-unit price. A mis-keyed 15.2 where you meant 1.52 shows as a three-figure total before anything is charged — that is what the big number is for.
A weight that looks like a typo is refused, not rounded down:
Over your item's limit (or over about 99 lb / 45 kg if you did not set one), the entry says so in words and will not let you add the line. It is never quietly reduced to the limit, and never treated as zero.
Each cut is its own line:
1.52 lb and then 0.8 lb are two lines, not "two turkeys". The ticket, the receipt and the check all show each weight, because they are two pieces of meat.
Why guests cannot order these ahead:
On your public menu a by-weight item shows its per-unit price and says "Available at the counter", with no Add button. Nobody knows what a cut costs until somebody cuts it, and charging an estimate then charging the difference later is a second card transaction a guest did not agree to. Everything else on your menu is unaffected.
