Take card payments on a Square Terminal
If your organization takes payments through Square, in-person cards run on a Square Terminal at your counter rather than on the phone. Turtini sends the check to the device; the device does the rest.
Which hardware works:
• Square Terminal — the handheld card device with the built-in receipt printer. Supported.
• Square's handheld. Supported.
• Square Register. NOT supported. Square's Terminal API cannot drive a Register, so a Register cannot be sent a check from Turtini. If you are buying hardware for this, buy a Terminal.
Pairing a terminal (once):
1. Open Devices in the Restaurant module
2. Choose Pair a terminal — Turtini shows you a code
3. On the Square Terminal, sign out to the sign-in screen and choose "Use a device code", then type the code Turtini showed you
4. The Devices screen updates itself the moment it pairs
Use the code Turtini gives you, not one from the Square Dashboard. A Dashboard code pairs the terminal to Square's own point of sale, and checks sent from Turtini will never reach it.
Taking a payment:
1. Open the check and choose Card on Terminal
2. Confirm the tip with the guest — the tip is added to the amount before it reaches the device, so the terminal will not ask a second time
3. The device prompts; the guest taps, inserts or swipes
4. The check closes on its own, with a receipt, as soon as Square reports the payment
Cash and checks do not go through the terminal. A Square Terminal cannot take a cash payment — settle those on the check itself, where they post to your cash and undeposited-funds accounts as usual.
Splitting a check:
Each share is sent to the terminal as its own payment, one after another. The terminal cannot split one prompt into several payments.
Receipts:
The terminal prints its own receipt on its own roll, and Turtini writes the check's receipt in your records either way. While a terminal is paired, Square does not support an external receipt printer attached through it.
If nothing happens:
Check the terminal is on and connected to Wi-Fi, then reopen Devices — a terminal that was unpaired at the counter stops being listed. If a guest walks away mid-prompt, closing the payment sheet in Turtini clears the prompt from the device.
