How we figure out which permits you need
Permit requirements depend on two things: what you're doing, and where you're doing it.
What you're doing — answer the questions on the card:
• Outdoors / on public property → a city or county special-event permit.
• 500+ attendance → fire-code assembly review.
• Serving or selling alcohol → a per-event alcohol license from your state authority.
• Serving food or cooking → a temporary food permit from the local health department.
• Tents or staging → a tent/structure permit from the fire marshal or building office.
• Amplified sound → a noise permit or variance.
• Closing a street → a right-of-way permit from public works.
Where you're doing it — we read your organization's city and state from Account settings, then match the right local offices. If your state isn't curated yet, we fall back to general guidance and name the office type to contact.
Each result is tagged Required, Likely needed, or If applicable, and sorted so the ones with the longest lead time — the ones to start TODAY — come first. Confirm specifics with the authority; thresholds (like tent size or attendance) vary by locality.
