A dispute left a balance on my account

If a dispute arrives after you have already been paid out, there may not be enough in your balance to cover it. When that happens the shortfall is covered up front so your account keeps taking payments normally, and a balance is recorded against it.

You can see it in **Account -> Integrations** under **Balance from disputes**: the original amount, what is left, and — most importantly — **who is recovering it**.

**Only one party ever collects.** This is worth understanding, because being billed twice for one chargeback is the thing most likely to go wrong here, and the system is built specifically so it cannot:

- **"Stripe is recovering this directly"** — your Stripe balance is negative, and it clears itself from your next sales, or by a debit from your bank account if you have that enabled. Turtini is **not** billing you for it. Nothing is held back from your payouts.
- **"Turtini is recovering this from a capped share of your payouts"** — this only appears when Stripe is *not* recovering it. A limited percentage of each payout goes toward the balance until it clears, then it stops on its own.

You will never see both at once, and the balance is checked against your live Stripe account every day. If Stripe recovers it after we have already collected some, that money is returned to you and shown as such on the same panel.

**If the dispute is later resolved in your favour**, the balance is cancelled, and anything already collected toward it comes back to you.

**Recovery history** on the same panel lists every amount applied, with the date and where it came from, so the running total is always checkable.
