Research and record provenance

Provenance — the documented chain of ownership — is the heart of responsible collecting. Open an object and find the **Provenance** section, then **+ Add provenance link** for each owner: who held it, the dates, and how they acquired it (purchase, gift, bequest, commission, exchange, found, unknown).

When a period is undocumented, add the link and check **Undocumented gap**. Gaps in the 1933–1945 window are flagged for Nazi-era due-diligence review, and objects carrying a flag surface in the collection summary so nothing slips through.

Links are ordered by sequence, so the chain reads top to bottom from earliest known owner to today.

Wally can append a link for you — tell it the owner, dates, and method, or say "flag a 1933–45 gap" and confirm the action card.
