Room types and rooms
Rooms are organized in two layers: room types (templates) and rooms (individual units).
Room types (Rooms tab → Types):
A room type defines the template for a category of rooms — e.g., "King Suite" or "Double Queen". Each type has:
• Name and description
• Base nightly rate (in dollars)
• Max occupancy (maximum guests)
• Bed type — King, Two Queens, Twin, Bunk, etc.
• Amenities — comma-separated tags like WiFi, Pool Access, Jacuzzi, Ocean View
• Photo (optional — goes through image moderation before display)
Rooms (Rooms tab → Rooms):
Each room is a physical unit linked to a room type. Create a room by clicking "+ Add Room":
• Room number — e.g., "101", "2B", "Penthouse"
• Floor number (optional)
• Room type — links to the rate and amenity template
• Notes — internal notes for staff (maintenance reminders, quirks)
Room statuses:
• Available (green) — clean and ready for guests
• Occupied (blue) — a guest is currently checked in
• Dirty (yellow) — guest has checked out; needs cleaning
• Cleaning (blue) — housekeeping is actively cleaning
• Out of Order (red) — room is temporarily unavailable (maintenance, renovation)
Status transitions are managed automatically when reservations move through their lifecycle, and manually from the Housekeeping tab.
