Estimator — outline a roof or lot from satellite imagery
The Estimator is the parity surface to the "free map tools" sites trades use to scope work before quoting. Type any address, jump to satellite imagery, outline the work area, label each shape, then convert the whole thing to a draft job with line-item pricing and the measurements persisted.
Workflow:
1. Address autocomplete — type the address; the map flies to it at street-level zoom
2. Hybrid basemap (satellite + labels) — labels help line up streets and yards
3. Pick a service template (Roof replacement / Roof repair / Pressure wash / Driveway seal / Lawn treatment / Fence install / Gutter clean) or use the generic measure tool
4. Service templates pre-fill unit price (e.g. roof replacement at $8.50/sq ft); generic doesn't
5. Outline the area (polygon) or run (polyline)
6. Label each shape with a default name ("Area 1", "Run 1") — rename to be specific ("Front roof south face", "Driveway")
7. Auto-quote: total = sum of (shape area × unit price) for every labelled shape
Property-data look-ups:
For residential addresses, Rentcast (or local property records where available) returns lot size, building square footage, year built, and property type. The Estimator surfaces these as a "Looks like a 2,400 sq ft single-family home built in 1987" sanity check before you draw.
Convert to job:
Click "Create job from estimate" — a Job is drafted with:
• Service address (and pinned coordinates)
• Service-template line items with per-shape measurements
• Total estimate
• Customer info if you've already linked a Contact
• Each saved measurement persists on the Job so the tech can re-open the same outline on-site
Pricing transparency:
The unit prices in service templates are starter rates — edit them per your market. The whole point is that customers see the same quote you generated; nothing is hidden.
