Test your connection speed in Find

Search for **speed test** — or "how fast is my internet", "upload speed", "ping test" — and Find runs one in the page. It measures latency first, then download, then upload, and shows the result with a plain sentence about what the connection can actually do.

**What the numbers mean**

• **Download** is how fast things arrive: video, pages, files. It is the number most people mean by "internet speed".
• **Upload** is how fast things leave: your camera on a video call, a file you send, a photo you post. It is usually much smaller than download, and that is normal on most home connections.
• **Latency** is the delay before anything moves at all, in milliseconds. A low number matters more than a big download for video calls and anything live.
• **Jitter** is how much that delay varies. Steady is better than fast-but-uneven — jitter is what makes a call break up while a speed test still looks fine.

**Where the test measures to**

Turtini's servers are in the central United States, and the result says so underneath. That is a real measurement of a real path, but it is not the same thing other speed tests report: most pick a server near you, so they measure a shorter trip and show a larger number.

If you are a long way from the central US, expect this test to read lower than those — the difference is distance, not your provider. The number is still useful for comparing your own connection over time, or between your phone and your laptop in the same room.

**It will not match your plan, and that is expected**

A plan is sold as a maximum to one device under ideal conditions. A real test runs over your wi-fi, through whatever else is on the network, to a server far away. Getting a fraction of the advertised number is ordinary. What is worth investigating is a result far below what you usually see, or one that is fine on a cable and poor on wi-fi — that points at the wi-fi rather than the line.

**A test uses data**

It moves real data in both directions, so on a metered or mobile connection it costs you some of your allowance. It stops on its own after a few seconds.
