Break-glass access to a patient's emergency profile
Emergency Responder lets a credentialed responder in your organization retrieve a patient's emergency medical profile when they can't speak for themselves.
Before you can use break-glass, an owner or admin registers your org as a credentialed responder: click "Responder credential", pick the credential (EMT, paramedic, nurse, ship doctor, physician), and enter the license number. This is a one-time step.
To retrieve a profile in an emergency:
1. Open Emergency responder (/emergency-responder).
2. Enter the patient's Turtini account email or phone number.
3. Enter a short clinical reason (for example, "unresponsive, cabin 8012"). This is required and recorded.
4. Click "Break glass — retrieve emergency profile".
You will see the minimum-necessary emergency subset: blood type, allergies, conditions, medications, advance directive, and the private fields (date of birth, insurance) a responder needs. You will never see the patient's full medical history.
Every access is permanent and visible to the patient: it is written to a tamper-evident audit chain, the patient is notified immediately, and their emergency contacts are alerted. If the patient never pre-authorized break-glass, access still works for life-safety but is flagged and escalated. Use it only for genuine emergencies.
