Membership discount codes and recurring cadence
A membership discount code brings down the price a supporter pays to join one of your membership tiers. It behaves like any other code, with one extra choice: how long the discount rides the recurring subscription.
To create a membership code:
1. Open Discounts and click + New Discount
2. Enter the code (e.g. FOUNDER50) and choose Percentage off or Fixed amount off
3. Under Applies to, turn on Memberships (you can leave other scopes on too if the same code should also work on, say, event tickets)
4. Optional — under "Limit to specific membership tiers", check one or more tiers to restrict the code. Leave all unchecked to apply to every tier.
5. Pick the recurring cadence in the "Applies to" cadence row:
• First payment only — the join payment is discounted; every renewal bills at the full rate (this is the default and matches how product/event codes behave)
• Every renewal — the discount applies to the first payment and every renewal, indefinitely
• First N months — the discount applies to the first payment and renewals for the number of months you set
6. Layer on any caps or a date window if you want, then click Create
The cadence only appears for membership-scoped codes. Codes that don't include the Memberships scope are always one-time.
You can also ask Wally: "Create a 50% off membership code called FOUNDER50 that applies to every renewal" — Wally drafts a confirm-first action card that writes the code with the recurring cadence set.
