Live-migrating a VM to another host
Migration moves a running VM from one hypervisor to another — for maintenance, to rebalance load, or to evacuate a host you're about to take down.
To migrate:
1. On the VMs tab, tap "Migrate" on the VM.
2. Choose the destination host from the list (only other hypervisors appear).
3. Tap "Migrate."
The row shows "migrating…" while the move is underway. When it completes, the VM's host updates to the destination and the tag clears.
How it works:
The VM's current host performs a live migration — the running machine is handed off to the destination hypervisor with minimal interruption — and once it's confirmed there, the Cloud module flips the VM's ownership to the new host so it stops being managed by the old one.
Requirements:
• Both hosts must be online and reachable from each other.
• Live migration generally needs shared or transferable storage between hosts; check your host setup if a migration stalls.
• Pick a destination with enough free capacity — the Hosts tab shows headroom.
