Track fixed assets and depreciation
**Capital & Sustainability -> Assets** is your asset register: equipment, vehicles, buildings, aircraft, anything you depreciate. Turn the module on from the directory first.
To add an asset:
1. **Add asset**, then name it and choose its class.
2. Enter cost, salvage value, the date it was placed in service, and its useful life in months.
3. Choose the depreciation method you and your accountant use: straight-line, declining balance (choose the rate multiple; 2 is double-declining, optionally switching to straight-line), sum-of-the-years' digits, units of production (total units over its life, then record use each month), or your own percentage schedule with where it comes from.
4. Optional: a usage unit and a maintenance reserve rate, and the replacement cost for the forecast.
The preview shows the first month's depreciation as you type. Your month-end close proposes exactly that amount for each asset, and the monthly auto-post books the same figure. Assets entered before methods existed keep their original straight-line amount.
Turtini does the arithmetic for the method you choose and gives no tax advice; it ships no tax tables. Archiving an asset stops depreciation and keeps its history.
Turning the module off hides these screens; it does not stop depreciation. Assets already in your register keep posting through the close, because your books must not change with a setting.
