Setting up Amenity Rentals — your asset types

Amenity Rentals (/amenity-rentals) is the checkout desk for any on-property item a guest borrows or rents — towels, kayaks, snorkel sets, beach toys, chairs, cabanas, umbrellas, bikes, sports gear. Turn the module on from the directory, then open /amenity-rentals and go to the Catalog tab.

An asset type is a template, not a single object. You create one "Beach Towel" type, not 400 towel records. Click "+ New item type" and set:

• Charge mode — this is the big choice:
- Free loan — there is no rental fee. You still set a Replacement value (what posts to the guest's account if the item never comes back) and optionally a Deposit hold. Towels, pool floats, and board games are usually free loans.
- Paid rental — a fee applies. Choose how it is billed:
· Flat — one fixed fee, charged at checkout (e.g. a cabana for the day).
· Per period — fee times the number of periods, charged at checkout, where a period is a length you set in hours (a per-day rate uses 24). Good for multi-day bike or kayak rentals.
· Hourly — nothing is charged at checkout; the fee is metered by the actual hours out and charged when the item is returned (rounded up to the hour, minimum one hour). You can also set an overdue penalty per hour past the due time.

• Replacement value — always set this. It is the charge that posts automatically at debark for anything still out, so a lost item is never a silent loss.

• Availability — Unlimited (you never run out — most towels) or Pooled quantity, where you enter how many you own and the desk keeps a live available count that drops on checkout and comes back on return. Pooled stops you handing out the eleventh of ten kayaks.

• Requires waiver — turn this on for higher-risk gear (watercraft, bikes) so the desk reminds staff to confirm the guest signed before checkout.

The catalog editor auto-saves as you type — the status pill in the corner shows Saving, then Saved. There is no separate Save button.
