Set your fiscal year
Most organizations run their books on the calendar year (January through December). Some run a fiscal year that starts in another month — a July–June or October–September year is common for HOAs, schools, and government-adjacent orgs.
Turtini supports either. You set it once, and it flows everywhere it matters.
To set your fiscal year:
1. Open Accounting
2. Go to the Ledger group, then the Periods pill
3. In the "Fiscal year" card at the top, pick the month your fiscal year STARTS in
4. It saves immediately
What "starts in" means:
• January = the calendar year (the default). "FY2026" is Jan–Dec 2026.
• Any other month = a fiscal year labeled by the year it ENDS in. If you pick July, "FY2027" runs July 2026 through June 2027.
Where it applies automatically once set:
• Budgets — budget periods (months or quarters) follow your fiscal year, and budget-vs-actual compares against the right window
• Financial reports — the reporting year uses your fiscal window
• The member packet / annual letter — actuals are summed over your fiscal year
• Dues and reserve projections — anchored to your fiscal year
• Tax filing — for entities (1120 / 1120-S / 1065), the business income window follows your fiscal year. Individual (1040) returns, payroll W-2s, and 1099s stay on the statutory calendar year regardless — that is required by law.
Changing the start month affects how NEW budgets, reports, and returns are built. Existing calendar-year data is untouched; a calendar-year org that never changes this setting sees no difference at all.
